Wu gorge

"While the magnificence of Qutang Gorge is left behind, the splendour of Wu Gorge comes in sight." Coming out of Qutang Gorge and sailing through an open area where the hills are low and the river is gentle, you enter Wu Gorge, which is characterised by beautiful peaks and steep cliffs on either side.
Wu Gorge is named after Mt. Wushan. It extends eastward from the mouth of the Daning River in the east of Wushan Town. Sichuan Province, to Guandukou in Badong County. Hubei Province, with a length of forty -five kilometres. The gorge is flanked with towering peaks and steep cliffs. Downstream you have to go through countless twists and turns. The river now seems to be blocked by the huge mountains, now breaks throuht and changes its direction. The changing course of the roaring river makes it difficult for you to take your bearings.
The deep gorge is so kaleidoscopic that you may feast your eyes on the beautiful scenes everywhere all along. The twelve peaks of Mt. Wushan make up a most spectacular scene. The peaks are varied in shape and posture. Some look like dragons flying to the sky, some like phoenixes spreading their wings and others like green screens. Some are shrouded in the cloud and others covered with ancient pinetrees. Among them Shennu (Fairy) Peak is most enchanting. The landscapes of the Daning River. Xiangxi River and Shennong river provide a unique flavour of primitiveness with the green mountains and the blue water.
In addition, located in the region of Wu Gorge are such famous walled cities as Wushan. Badong and Zigui, where there are a number of noted historical sites and where the folkways are so unique and colourful that one can enjoy himself heartily. |
